RADIOACTIVE WASTE

A general public knowledge base dedicated to radioactivity created and maintained by the french physics community

The neutrino appears as the partner of the electron in particle physics, in the same way that the neutron is the partner of the proton in the nucleus. Elementary particle devoid of electric charge, having almost no mass, the neutrino interacts very little with matter. Equally invisible, the antineutrino, antiparticle of the neutrino, is partner of the positron (antiparticle of the electron). In the beta decay of nuclei, the neutrino or antineutrino is emitted in association with a positron or electron, an quasi-invisible particle that carries with it some of the energy available.
